DMMC Front Optospider™: Fast Ethernet media converter DMMC for polymer optical fibers (POF)

The new developed family of POF media converters Optospider™ DMMC is especially designed for home networks and private use.

Power supply is realized via the network cable (passive PoE, PPoE). No separate power supply unit is necessary. A special PPoE network cable included to every DMMC media converter uses the 5V power supply as available at the USB port of the terminal equipment (PC) and injects it via the network cable to the media converter. In parallel the cable transmits the data, too. This power supply concept allows to abandon the bothersome power supply units. As the media converter power supply is taken from the USB port, the media converter is automatically switched off, if the terminal equipment is switched off. In this way the DMMC media converter contributes to energy savings and climate protection.

The DMMC housing is made of a silver anodized aluminium profile. The control of data flow during operation is done by the 2 indicator LED integrated in the RJ-45 jack. Download: data sheet Optospider™ DMMC 650nm simplex.
DMMC Startset 650nm The Optospider™ DMMC 650nm simplex startset consists of 2 media converters including PPoE cables, 30m POF (white, black, transparent jacket or bare fiber) and a cutting tool to reduce the POF cable length.

WLAN AP
If in one room 2 or more terminal units shall be connected to the network, the option of choice may be a combination of a Optospider™ DMMC media converter and a WLAN access point that provides his power supply to the media converter via passive PoE and the network cable. The combination of both modules requires one power supply only. The installation of the unit is very easy.
As the WLAN access point has to transmit the data in one room only, its transmit power can be significantly reduced in comparison with an WLAN system that has to transmit throught the complete building. The transmit power reduction in the WLAN access point is feasible with every browser.
The reduction of transmit power is advantageous due to several reasons:
  • there is no, or very little interference with a further WLAN system that might be operating in the neighbouring room,
  • non authorized persons that use the WLAN system without permission do have more technical problems to receive sufficient signal power, and
  • the reduction of radio frequency power as far as possible close to human environment is a positive target in general.
